Kenya has many different crops that they farm. They mainly use subsistence agriculture. Subsistence
agriculture is when farmers grow only enough crops so that their own family can survive. Coffee, tea, sisal, pyrethrum,
corn, and wheat are the crops that are grown in the highlands. Coconuts, pineapples, cashew nuts, cotton, sugarcane, sisal,
and corn are farmed in the area that is more flat. Most of Kenya has a savanna climate, which is a good climate for the cattle.
Kenya also produces quality dairy products. They include pork, poultry, and eggs. Kenya also manufactures consumer goods such
as plastic, furniture, textiles, cigarettes, and leather goods. They also manufacture others.
Industrial development has been slowed down by shortages in hydroelectric power. The
public sector has been very unreliable and breaks easily. However, steps have been taken to make some of the state-owned companies
private.
The minerals produced are limestone, soda ash, gold, salt, and fluorospar. There is also
some titanium. Kenya also attracts many tourists. They mainly come to Kenya because of its coastal beaches and varied
wildlife, which is protected in the Tsavo National Park (8,034 sq mi/20,808 sq km), which is shown in the picture at the bottom
of this page. This park is in the southeast part of Kenya.
